Product Description
The Nexus320+ and Nexus220+ filters now come with a brand new filter media called K+Media in the moving bed outer chamber for greatly improved biological filtration and much faster filter maturation. The new Nexus+ filters are also supplied “auto ready”, with factory fitted fixings already in place, making it even easier to upgrade to the Nexus Automatic Cleaning System.
How it works?
Water enters the filter from the pond via the inlet, which is connected to the inner chamber of the Nexus. The inner chamber forces water to vortex around the Eazy filter, which is a cage containing K1 micro media. This action causes any large solids in the water to settle at the bottom of the inner chamber. The water then moves through the Eazy filter, and thus K1 micro media which removes finer solids/particles present in the water. This is known as the mechanical filtration stage.
Once the water is largely absent of solids (which are held up in the Eazy filter containing K1 micro media), it then passes through the centre of the nexus where it is distributed into the outer chamber. This Nexus chamber is aerated (known as a moving bed) and contains K+ media. This stage is designed to biologically treat the water passing through the outer chamber prior to being returned to the pond. Water in contact with the media undergoes a biological breakdown whereby bacterium Nitrobacter and Nitrosomonas (living on the media) consumes Ammonia (NH3) and Nitrite (NO2), present in the water as a by-product of fish waste. The bacteria convert the harmful compounds into a less harmful dissolved gas, nitrate (NO3) which naturally leaves the filter.
The water has now been treated and is ready to be returned to your Koi Carp. From here water then enters the exit grill dropping down the outlet where it is returned to the pond.
