Chagoi are Brown/Bronze, solid coloured Koi Carp. The word ‘chat’ translates from Japanese as Tea, which perfectly describes the colour of these amazing Koi.

While Chagoi are typically Brown/Bronze the shade can vary greatly.  As a rule of thumb, the paler Chagoi tend to be more highly valued. When choosing a Chagoi you should look for a fish of high quality, free of blemishes and strong scale reticulation (known as Fukurin).

Chagoi on occasion may exhibit incredibly striking, glittering scales. This phenomenon is known as Ginrin. A Chagoi displaying such scales would therefore be known as Ginrin Chagoi.

Chagoi do not exhibit vibrant rainbow colours like many other Koi Carp varieties. Instead, Chagoi are revered for their simplistic beauty, friendliness and size. Chagoi are extremely close in genetic terms to the wild Amur carp from which Koi carp were bred. This gives Chagoi an almost wild appetite, making them incredibly easy to tame and hand feed.

Having a fish with such a voracious appetite allows them to grow very large, but can also give other Koi in a pond confidence when it comes to feeding. One of the most rewarding experiences in Koi keeping is having your prized fish greet you daily eagerly awaiting a hand full of Koi food. In many instances, the answer to achieving this is by introducing a Chagoi.

If you’re looking to add some charm and character to your Koi pond, look no further than Chagoi!
